Whatcha Finding Out?
You have been researching now for two days. Tell us something you have learned about your topic that you find very interesting or had no previous idea about.( The deadline to post a response is midnight, Nov. 7, 2012.)
While I was doing my research, I discovered something horrific. Back in the day, there was a product called Lash Lure, for your eyelashes. One lady accidentally got it in her eye and went blind. Scientist decided to test this product on rabbits. This was called the Draize test. Rabbits were strapped down so they would not escape. Rabbits were used because they have no tear ducts that could wash away the product, which caused more pain to the animal but more accurate data for the scientist. Some of the rabbits would break their neck when trying to get out of these secure holding places.
In my research, I found a small section under an old oil painting of the Bastille, that said people in France still celebrate the fall of the Bastille as the beginning of French Democracy. I find this really interesting.
Once again I am doing my research on cerebral palsy. I found it interesting that it is more likely for males to get cerebral palsy than for females to get it.
I am doing my research project on Suicide. I have found that suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in people from the ages of 15-24 and the 6th leading cause of death in ages 5-14.
I'm doing my research project on divorce effects on children and I found that in an elementary school in Massachusetts, they actually have a support group of about 16 students and they actually sit down with a counselor and talk about their feelings. I thought it was interesting that they actually have support groups in elementary schools
I am doing my research paper on organ donation and I found out that half of the organ that are donated are not even used. Finding that out was pretty shocking because many resources state that there should be more donors in the world.
I am doing my research on sex education to determine whether it should be taught in schools or not. The most ironic fact I found was about teaching abstinence-only programs. I found out that there are different levels of the programs. In a recent study, the high the level, the higher the birth rate was for teens. I found this rather strange.
AR-First block I have been researching the topic The Black Death. I have found out that, during the time period that the plague was raging through countries, many things dropped down in price. The concept of money and everyone's desire for it was forgotten because of their focus on the fear of death. It hurt the economy greatly because of this.
I am doing my project on animal experimentation. One thing i found interesting was a scientist took a baboons heart and gave it to a new born baby. The babys heart had failed so they gave her the baboons and it allowed her to live for three more weeks.
Doing my research, I found out that recent studies show that autism is becoming more and more likely to be diagnosed to even 1 out of every 94 boys. Also, over $90 billion dollars are given to the support of autism in the U.S. each year! (learning more and more each day!)
I am doing my research paper on dyslexia. While making my note cards and doing my research, I found that dyslexia is three times for common for boys that it is for girls.
