This land is my land...
Having read two selections by European explorers to America--Christopher Columbus and John Smith--we have discussed their focus upon abundance, religion, wealth, and hospitality of Early America. Time has changed these concepts of America in many ways. Which of the four aspects(abundance, religion, wealth, and hospitality) has remained basically the same throughout American history? Which has changed the most? Explain. (The deadline to post a response to this blog is midnight, Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012.)

I believe the concept that has more or less remained the same over time is our view of wealth. Money is still what our world revolves around and is generally used to determine status, much like that of the 1600s. The aspect that has changed the most in my opinion is religion. Although it is still a major part in our country, it is not enforced, per say. The Puritans came to America to be free of religious persecution, but much of their time was spent trying to convert the natives to Christianity. Also, the Bible was read by basically everyone. It was accepted and the most read book of that time. Today, it remains popular, but no where near as popular (based on percentage of population) as it is was in the 1600s.
I think that the one that changed the least the thought of wealth because like then today money deciedes social stauts and like then the country is viewed as the country of wealth and posperity. The one that changed the most is religion because then everybody went to church and religions moved to here to get be able to preach freely and not forced to preach what the king tells them to
Abundance hasn't changed too much. So many people still see America as the land of opportunity... There's an abundance of opportunities! There's also an abundance of resources and things needed to live. Although people aren't as hospitable as they used to be, religion has changed more. At that time, everyone read the Bible and practiced the same religion. Now, people practiced freely, and don't feel obligated to believe any one thing.
I think the aspect of wealth is still about the same now. We run on our money. Without money, today, we wouldn't have the same technology as we do now. I, also, think the religion has changed tremendously. There are more religions in America than they were back then. We can believe whatever we want without worrying about being persecuted, unlike the Puritans.
