Grade the Test

One definition of crucible is a personal or severe test. In Act III, both Mary Warren and Elizabeth Proctor face crucibles. Comment on what test each is given and then decide how each has performed. Give them grades and justify why they have scored thus. (The post closes a midnight on Saturday, September 26th.)

Mary Warren is given the test of standing up to Abigail; however, she succumbs to Abigail's wrath. I would give her a D because she at least tried. On the other hand, Abigail either has to lie or tell the truth when John confesses. I give her an A+ because she never seems to falter.

Mary Warren's test is standing up for herself. I would give her a 36% for how far she got but she failed over all. Elizabeth's crucible is revealing the truth about John. I would give her an 85% for lying to save John, but she still should have told the truth because the court would have found out anyway.
