Something That Happened

When he first wrote this novel, Steinbeck titled it Something That Happened.  Then, he remembered the poem "To a Mouse," which we read in class.  From that poem he took the title Of Mice and Men.  Which title Something that Happened or Of Mice and Men do you think is the better title?  Why?  Give specific reasons.  (The deadline to post a response to this question is midnight, Saturday, December 6, 2014.) Please take a moment to vote in the poll at the right and there is another blog below this one, too.

I believe the title something that happened is too vague because many events played out in this book something that happened doesnt really make you think however, of mice and men makes one wonder before they even read the book what is meant by "of mice and men" i believe this is the ideal title for the book because the "mice" is symbolism for fragility just as lennie loves mice but he pets them too hard and kills them or like how george protects and cares for lennie through out the novel but in the end is forced to kill him and the "men" represent the common folk of the time such as the ranchers who dream of one day owning their own land and making enough money to quit working

I think the title Of Mice And Men is better because in the poem, "To A Mouse", it says "the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." It goes with the book, because "the best laid plan" was Lennie and George's dream, and it went bad whenever Lennie was killed. If Steinbeck would have used the title Something That Happened, it wouldn't help pick out the main thing that happens, like Of Mice and Men does.

I like the title of Mice and Men because of the poem To A Mouse . Both the story and the poem are similar so therefore the novel is better suited with the title that it has now.

I think Of Mice and Men is better because in the poem the guy hurts a mouse on accident and in the book the Lennie did the same thing to the mice his aunt gave him. Also i feel that when Steinbeck read the poem in class he realized his story had similarities.

To me, something that happened is a better title for the book. It seems to fit the content better. There is always something happening in the book.
