Daisy! Daisy! Daisy!
Discuss the many roles Daisy plays in The Great Gatsby. Is she dynamic or static, flat or round, antagonist, or merely a symbol of the American dream? (This post closes at midnight on Sunday, December 13th.)
Daisy plays many roles in The Great Gastby. I think she is static, flat, and a symbol of the American dream because she stays the same and does not change. Daisy loved both Tom and Gastby at one point in time, and that is not the way Gastby planned on it being. It shows Daisy's real side when she is going to let Gatsby take the blaim for driving the car and running away with Tom after Gatsby was killed. Although, Daisy made it seem as if she was going to leave Tom, she never really was going to. I think Gatsby was in love with the Daisy he knew back before Tom.
I think Daisy is Gatsby's american dream. She is all he wants and will do whatever it takes to get her. I liked her in the beginnin, but then i saw her true colors. She belongs with Tom. Gatsby deserves way more than her.
In my opinion, Daisy is static character because she remains unchanged. Throughout the whole novel, Daisy is selfish, flighty, and careless. She is only worried about money and what is best for her. Although all of these are true, I do not think Daisy is the antagonist but merely a symbol of the American Dream. Dasiy represents Gatsby's long awaited dream that isn't fulfilled. This is like most "dreams" of this time era and even now. This goes to show Americans want and want and want until they want what they cannot have.
Celene (Second Block) Daisy’s character tremendously affects the story line in The Great Gatsby. She is considered a dynamic and round character because she experiences change in her life throughout the novel and is seen as having a complete personality. Daisy is a woman who is in love with a soldier, later known to be Gatsby, but is left behind when he goes to war. As she waits upon the return of her dearly beloved, she falls for a rich and powerful man named Tom Buchanan. She marries him despite of her undying love for Gatsby and shields her feelings by acting a “fool.” From the time Fitzgerald introduces Daisy as Nick’s cousin and Tom’s wife, to the time it is revealed that she and Gatsby were previous lovers, Daisy had been the center of what the novel’s story revolved around.
