Gatsby, Gatsby, Gatsby....
Based upon the first three chapters of the novel, who is Gatsby? Why do you think so much mystery surrounds him? (This blog closed on Monday, May 11, 2009 at midnight.)
Gatsby is a just an ordinary person that has alot of money. Mystery surrounds him because he makes it that way. He hides in the shadows and just listens to what people say about him. Gatsby is also in giving out his money. He will give his money about just to see someone happy. From the first three chapters, Gatsby is described as modest and kind. Only the rumors of what people think about him make him mean.
Gatsby is a modest and humble man who enjoys spending his money to make others happy. There is a lot of mystery about his life and background, and many rumors are spread around about him. He allows people to spread these rumors, and since nobody actually knows the truth, the mystery stays. RH-4
Gatsby is indeed a mystery. However, a few aspects of his personality seem to be revealed in the descriptions of him in Chapter Three; he seems to be very unassuming, genial, and calm. Obviously, he is very rich, and he appears to like people to enjoy his parties, even the people he did not invite. Gatsby is such a mystery mainly because he is so disconnected from everyone else. Though very polite and kind, he seems to be careful not to get too close to anyone. Thus, nobody really knows him, and stories spread like wild fire.
Gatsby is a mystery in this story. Many people spread rumors about him. Though nobody really knows who he is, they characterize him in many ways. In chapter three he seemed to ba a normal guy looking for conversation. He likes for other people to be happy. He throws parties at his house so that other people can enjoy themselves. He is very rich but does not flaunt his money. He is a caring person but yet a mystery still lies within him.
