We have discussed the friendship shared by George and Lennie. Today, we read about a different type of friendship--Candy and his dog. In what ways is the friendship parallel to the one shared by George and Lennie? ( This blog closes at midnight on Wednesday, April 22nd)

George and Lennies relationship is the like Candy and his dog's relationship because they both need each other to take care of each other. With Lennie, George would be lonely and without George, Lennie would not be able to take care of himself. The same way with Candy and his dog. Candy needs his dog as company and his dog needs Candy to take care of him.

I believe there are many similarities between the relationships of George and Lennie and Candy and his dog. The many similarity I noticed is the master/pet aspect. George must look after Lennie much like Candy has to take care of his dog. There is also a likeness between the two pairs because they each need the other for a companion. When Candy's dog was put to death, he exemplified the theme of loneliness. George and Lennie are able to avoid loneliness because they have each other to rely on.
